Woodworm

The term Woodworm is a general description for Wood-boring Insects which applies to a large number of insects that can destroy the timber of a building unless it is preserved against them.

These insects lay their eggs on the surface of the wood, into which the emerging larvae bore and then tunnel for varying periods, sometimes many years.

Considerable damage, which can eventually cause the structural weakness of the timber, will result. Subsequently, after pupation, they emerge as winged adult beetles through the "flight holes" that we see as evidence of their presence.
